The Big E

25 September 2009

H and I dropped by The Big E a few days ago just to see what it was all about. It's been ages since I've been to a fair, and i realize that as I get older, the more scared I am to ride the "scarier" rides. I used to be able to ride the ferris wheel, but when I saw it again this time, it looked huge! I can't believe I was brave enough to get on it before!

Instead of enjoying the rides, we spent most of the time just walking around, enjoying the food booths and the state pavilions, as well as taking lots of pictures, with the above being my favorite for some reason.

I remember when i first heard about deep fried Mars bars and how it sounded so strange I just had to try it. Apparently now they deep fry everything. Deep fried Oreos anyone?

More deep fried stuff.

What's a fair without corn dogs?

And ooh, here's another little stand I passed by without trying, much to my regret. isn't it just so cute?

And lastly, another ferris wheel image before I go off to Spain. Happy weekend!

Updates and boots

I'm a delinquent blogger. Been so busy this month that I haven;t had time to update at all! Had 2 groups of visitors with a week of each other. Went with my parents to NY and saw Wicked, which is sooo good. The soundtrack is on eternal loop on my iPod now. Then I was busy packing for our delayed honeymoon. We are leaving this afternoon, which means another 2 weeks of blog absence, so I thought I should at least say a little hello before I disappear again, and maybe leave some images for you all to enjoy. :)

First, a pair of boots that I am coveting: the Frye Veronica Slouch boots from Shopbop. I love the way it looks worn in already and how it looks perfect for fall.

Frye Veronica boots
It's too bad I already bought AND wore another pair of boots, coincidentally Frye as well, from Zappos. These are the ones I bought, which I also really like, except I think I like the ones above just a teeny bit more.

So what do you think? Did I make the right choice? Not that I can still return the ones I already bought...Plus, I also really want a pair of gray boots/booties. Argh!

Whimsy & Spice

01 September 2009

I don't even remember how I found the blog Sweet Fine Day...probably from clicking through from other blogs. This was how I discovered that they are actually confectioners in Brooklyn who have an Etsy store named Whimsy and Spice. Every single photo and description made me want to click the purchase button as they were positively drool-worthy and crave-inducing. I couldn't resist. I had to order some to try! Here is what arrived in the mail today (and I only placed the order last Saturday!):

Package from Whimsy and Spice

And to think I didn't even open it immediately because I thought it was something else I was expecting! Look how pretty the card is. Yes, I know you can't really see the contentsclearly so here's a better look at what was inside:

Goodies from Whimsy and Spice

Still not clear enough? Here's a better close-up.

Homemade marshmallows @ Whimsy and Spice

It sounds like marshmallows are what they're famous for since it mentions in their shop blurb that they're featured in the summer issue of Martha Stewart Weddings. I picked their trio sampler of caramel, maple, and cardamom marshmallows. I haven't opened any yet since I have guests arriving tomorrow and I want to share everything with them. If I were to open any of the packages, there might be nothing left to share tomorrow!

Espresso brownies with dulce de leche @ Whimsy & Spice

I also love anything made with coffee, so when I saw the "espresso" brownie with dulce de leche, I knew I would definitely order them. And yes, they are all still unopened. :(

Earl Grey Sandwich Cookies @ Whimsy & Spice

Earl grey sandwich cookies! Their shop description says "The exquisite scent and flavor of bergamot and the sweet creaminess of white chocolate in the filling combine to make a delicately scrumptious sandwich cookie. Each bite-sized earl grey sandwich is 1.75", perfect with a spot of tea." How could I resist? Plus, H is a fan of Earl Grey, so this is something I can share with the non-sweets lover in the family.

I can't wait to open them all tomorrow when the guests arrive. Yum! And because I like the postcard that came in the package so much, here's another shot:
